veterans, their surviving spouses and their family members
It is the mission of the NYCPD
Veterans Foundation to aid and assist honorably discharged
NYCPD retirees, their surviving spouses, and dependents.
Such aid and assistance includes, but is not limited to,
financial assistance, promoting public safety for senior
citizens, promoting education via scholarship programs,
providing spiritual guidance, providing a support network
for job related stress, financial setback matters, and
various medical disorders.
The objectives of the NYCPD Veterans Foundation are:
To
serve as a source of financial aid to surviving spouses in
the payment of health care coverage. Provide financial
assistance to those in special need, (i.e., hospitalization,
health care, prescription drugs, food, shelter). Develop and
provide educational programs directed at younger family
members with an emphasis on reducing juvenile delinquency.
Develop a Scholarship Program with an emphasis on continued
education. Provide spiritual comfort and guidance to members
and family members in their bereavement (i.e., death,
alcohol & drug abuse, dismemberment, etc.,). Develop
educational programs directed at retired police officer
“wellness” and establish a Support Network in an effort to
reduce post retirement occupational stress. Serve as a
resource and liaison with agencies and organizations
involved in programs directed at reducing violence. Develop
and contribute to programs that have the potential to reduce
crime and violence in the senior community, with emphasis on
public safety. Support and assist local law enforcement
efforts in identifying programs that will have the greatest
impact on reducing crime and violence, especially the
prevention of crimes against senior citizens. |
